It really is bizarre that since 9/11 the U.S. government has killed millions of people, but the fact of it is completely absent from the American consciousness. That's true even though American researchers are the ones who confirmed the horrific death toll. For instance, the Physicians for Social Responsibility, out of Washington DC, determined that by 2011, the number of Iraqis who were killed in or from the war was one million of them.
A million people dead. Why don't you try to visualize it for a moment, and I'll help you. Imagine yourself driving through a decimated neighborhood where all the people were killed by something, where it is completely and totally lifeless. No children playing. No neighbors talking. No mailman doing his rounds. No UPS guy delivering a package. Maybe there is a dog barking but no people. House after house after house, there are no people. How many neighborhoods would you have drive through to lay eyes on the empty domiciles of a million dead people? How long a drive would it be, and how long would it take? And with each passing minute, wouldn't your anxiety grow? Wouldn't you be thinking to yourself, "This can't be. They can't all be dead. I must be having a bad dream."
But, it's no bad dream. It's more like a living nightmare. And if you experienced it that way, would it change you? Would it change your view of the world? And I mean your world; the world you are living in.
And after seeing that, imagine that you go home to your usual environs, and everyone is acting normal, as if it's a typical day and everything is normal. Well, it isn't normal, but maybe it is usual. After all, it's not the first time it happened. The United States killed 3 million people in Southeast Asia, that's in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. That war, like the Iraq War, is widely admitted to be a mistake, and how could it not be? It was fought to keep Vietnam from going Communist, but Vietnam is Communist and in spades. And since that would have happened without a war, it means all the fighting and dying was for nothing.
And now, after 18 years of war, we are trying to facilitate the Taliban resurrecting an Islamic state in Afghanistan. But, what's the difference between that and us losing? The difference to us is that we are getting them to give us assurances that they won't allow terrorists to operate from Afghanistan. But supposedly, we think that they did that before. Therefore, why would we accept any of their assurances?
I already told you that the United States pays all the expenses of the Taliban to travel to Qatar for the peace talks. But, that's not all the money we pay them. We pay them to operate civil services in the parts of Afghanistan that they control, and that includes the running of schools, hospitals, and more. And I have a hunch that at the peace talks, we are waving all kinds of money at them. I think we are telling them that after the war is over, the U.S. will continue to provide money to Afghanistan, which is to say, them, for recovery and rebuilding and that with our cue, the international community will respond with a lot of aid money to Afghanistan, which is to say, them.
So, it's a situation in which we are putting the enemy back in power (and don't for one second doubt that until very recently, the Taliban was depicted as the savage enemy) and paying them a lot of money to boot.
So, how is this anything but losing an 18 year war? Do you think that because we are getting them to say that they won't let terrorists use Afghanistan to stage attacks on other countries that it means something? It doesn't mean anything. They were NEVER interested in attacking other countries. They were only interested in Afghanistan. They haven't changed. They are the same now as they were then. The purpose of getting them to say it is to just to save face; for us to save face. And they're happy enough to say it. Why not? If someone was going to pay you money if you promise not to set fire to Yellowstone National Park, you'll promise not to do it. Why not? If the dumb fuck needs to hear that from you, then what the hell. Tell him you'll through in Glacier National Park too- for no extra charge.
But, make no mistake: what is going on right now in Afghanistan is our capitulation. We lost, and we are talking to them now about paying reparations. 18 years of war; hundreds of thousands dead; all for nothing.
And if a deal is reached, and Pompeo says he expects it to be signed by September, it will necessitate the complete dissolution of the Afghan government. However, the Taliban is already flipping members of the Afghan government, and in large numbers. They are never going to accept Ghani, the current President. The U.S. knows that he has to be sacrificed. And I don't mean killed. But, the Taliban will not let him be part of the post-occupation government. But, all we care about is saving face, so as long as we can come up with a statement to our people that it's a new coalition government in Afghanistan and not the restoration of the Taliban... But, it will be the restoration of the Taliban, and it's going to take some slick media work by the spokesmen and pundits to cover it up.
