If you are wondering why I am so focused on Afghanistan, it's partly because it plays such a big role in my movie. Early on, the Senator holds a press conference that is all about the War in Afghanistan. And late in the story, Abdul Latif Hassan, the lead terrorist, gives a speech to all Americans, and he talks about Afghanistan. 

I got the idea for such a speech from Ayn Rand because at the end of Atlas Shrugged, John Galt gives a speech to all Americans. And I suspect the authors of V for Vendetta got the idea from her to have V give a speech to all Brits. 

There is very little reporting on Afghanistan in the regular press, that is, the popular press. Most Americans are completely unaware that fighting in Afghanistan has escalated to one of the worst levels seen in years. 

It was just a week ago, or less, that the Afghanistan newsfeed site, which is out of Britain, was all aglow about the success of the peace negotiations, saying repeatedly, over and over again, that a signed peace deal was just hours away. They were talking about it like it was a done deal, like it was totally in the hopper. But today,  there isn't a word about it. The pendulum has swung back, and it's all about war WAR WAR.
