Jim Leavelle has died at the age of 99. After retiring from the DPD at age 58, he started his own polygraph company. How ironic because he couldn't have passed one. He actually claimed that after shooting Oswald that "Ruby" tried to shoot again and would have if not for Graves. And he had it that "Ruby" tried to fire with two hands. And admittedly, it's common to fire the Colt 38 Detective Special with two hands. In every video that I've seen, the shooting is always done with two hands. Here, Leavelle is demonstrating what he claims "Ruby" did.
But, the shooter didn't do that. This is after the shot:
So, he shoots with one hand, then swings around about 60 degrees to get his back to the camera, and then he dives into the swarm of police. He did not try to fire again; not with one hand and not with two.
Leavelle said that he saw the shooter "through the corner of his eye." Why didn't he turn his head? Actually, he did turn his head but the other way so as not to see him.
He said that after seeing Ruby and his gun that at the same time he jerked on Oswald to pull him behind him and shoved on Ruby's left shoulder with his right hand. This is him demonstrating the shove he gave Ruby before the shot.
He said, and I quote, that he shoved on Ruby's shoulder, his left shoulder, with his right hand. But, that never happened. He wasn't even in position to do that. He never tried to pull Oswald behind him either. It was all a bold-faced lie. We have the videos, and we can see that it didn't happen.
