Richard Charnin's 20 questions: he's been clamoring for people to answer them, so now it's my turn.
1. Were Fritz' Notes hidden for 30 years because of the reference to "out with Bill Shelley in front"?
Frankly, I suspect nobody knew about it except Fritz himself and Hosty and Bookout who also heard it when Oswald said it, although they may not have realized that Fritz wrote it down. But, when Fritz died, it was just in there with his stuff, and it passed to whomever his Executor was. He obviously didn't leave it to anyone. And then, we just got lucky that somebody decided to contribute it to the ARRB, and it may have happened without any awareness of the lightening bolt that it contained. Again, we just got lucky.
2. Give your take on the arrow-drawing in CE 369.
It's simple. Frazier drew the large arrow that is mostly in the white pointing to Doorman, and the only other mark on the photo is a small discreet line on the forearm of Black Hole Man, which is the tail of Lovelady's arrow. The head is in the black space of the enclosure of BH Man's arms. Lovelady was telling Ball that he was Black Hole Man.
Notice that you can see the head of Frazier's arrow in the black. So, if there was another arrow in the black pointing to Doorman, we'd see it. Perhaps with difficulty, but we would see it.
3. Were photos, films, etc. altered in order to convict Oswald?
Of course. The JFK assassination is probably the most photographically altered event of all time.
4. Would the WC or the FBI allow anyone to testify that they saw Oswald in the doorway if that were the case?
Of course not. It was forbidden. If anyone had tried to say it, they would have been told that they were mistaken, and they had better not say it again- if they value life as they know it. The WC witnesses concerning this were pre-screened. They asked them privately and knew what they were going to say before they did it officially. The only one they had doubt about was Lovelady, and that's why Joseph Ball did not ask him directly, and instead, just told him to draw an arrow to himself- a non-verbal response.
5. Would they allow a witness who claimed to see Oswald in the doorway testify about other things?
I doubt it. Why take the chance? They HAD to bring Lovelady out because how would it look if they didn't? But, look how coy and slick Joseph Ball was him. Look how he quickly changed the subject after seeing where Lovelady drew his arrow. What if Lovelady had just blurted out, "That other guy was Oswald!" Who knows, maybe he did. How do we know? The whole testimony may be severely doctored. You can be damn sure they weren't going to publish anything as inflammatory, as fatal to the official story as someone claiming to see Oswald in the doorway. When it came to this, if it meant having to lie, they'd lie.
6. If a witness was involved as a conspirator, would he have flat-out lied about Doorman's identity?
Sure. Case in point: Danny Arce. Just read his testimony, the way Joseph Ball went right to it, pointing to Doorman and asking, "Who is he?" He wouldn't have done that unless he knew in advance- with certainty- that Danny was a reliable team player.
7. Lovelady and others weren't asked directly if Oswald was out front. Was it a logical question to ask that?
Lovelady wasn't asked directly, but Arce and Frazier were both asked directly who Doorman was, and that was the equivalent of asking whether Oswald was out front since Doorman was Oswald. But, the reason Ball was confident to ask them directly is because he knew what they were going to say. They worked it out in advance. And if it wasn't Ball himself who worked it out with them in advance, then somebody else did and gave Ball the go-ahead. One way or another, they worked it out in advance. But apparently, Ball was warned that Lovelady was resisting and was potentially a loose cannon, which is why he didn't go all-in with Lovelady.
8. Give your take on Oswald being seen at 12:31 and a half by Truly and Baker holding a Coke.
Richard, Oswald was NOT holding a Coke. Both Baker and Truly said repeatedly that he had no Coke, no Coke, no Coke. Oswald did not get the Coke until AFTER his encounter with Truly and Baker. And, it's a very important point because it establishes that he didn't go there to get a Coke. If he had gone there to get a Coke he either would have had one already or he would have been in the process of getting one when Baker arrived.
9. Lovelady died at age 41 of a sudden heart attack right before the HSCA Final Report came out. Why didn't they force Lovelady to testify, as they did other witnesses?
When Groden and Brooten came to visit him, Lovelady must have poured his heart out that he didn't want to testify, and please, don't make him do it. The HSCA lead attorney Ken Brooten actually resigned just to represent Lovelady. When has that ever happened before or since in the history of US jurisprudence? And they did let Lovelady off the hook. Why? It wasn't out of compassion or sympathy. It was because they must have realized that Lovelady would have made a lousy witness because he was a lousy liar. He just wasn't any good at it. He was going to wreck it for them.
10. Why is that even among JFK researchers who advocate conspiracy and Oswald innocence, that relatively few have taken up the rallying cry of Oswald in the doorway?
That was true for a long while, but it's changing rapidly, and I don't think it's true that relatively few conspiracy-based researchers ignore it today. I would say that today, it's over 50% who recognize it, and I predict that in a few years time, at least 90% of conspiracy-based researchers will endorse Oswald in the doorway. It's unfortunate that the JFK research community dropped the ball on this for so long on this. But, that has changed dramatically since the emergence of the Oswald Innocence Campaign in 2012, and our momentum and influence are still growing.
11. Is it just a coincidence that witnesses like Frazier and Shelley can't be seen in the Altgens doorway?
The Altgens doorway was highly altered. It's not the only part of the Altgens photo that was altered, but it's the part that was most altered. Individuals were obfuscated, and that is very obvious. And, I don't know why you used the word "coincidence" because coincidence has nothing to do with it. Bill Shelley, Buell Frazier, Joe Molina, and Otis Williams were obfuscated, and perhaps others were too.
12. Do you believe the Backyard Photos were faked?
Yes, absolutely. See the work of Jack White.
13. Do you believe the Z-film was altered?
Yes, absolutely. See the works of Jack White, John Costella, Doug Horne, and many others.
14. Is there a possibility that Oswald was Doorman?
It is absolutely and positively certain that he was. It's as certain that Oswald was in the doorway as it is that Jesus Christ was on the Cross. The photographic evidence alone cinches it 100%, but there is also "out with Bill Shelley" in front, plus the statements of Anthony Botelho at the time and more recently that of Marina Oswald. There is also the testimony of Carolyn Arnold that she saw Oswald right by the doorway minutes before the motorcade arrived.
15. What about Carolyn Arnold's statement that she saw Oswald in the 2nd floor lunch room at 12:25?
That's not what she originally said. In her first interview with the FBI just days after the assassination, she said that she saw Oswald AFTER she went outside, and that he was standing between the two sets of doors in front. In other words, he was on the precipice of the doorway looking outside through the glass. Did he step outside after that? Of course he did. Who wouldn't? The FBI reported the time as 12:15, but many have suggested that she must have said 12:25 because she didn't get outside as early as 12:15. So, the FBI must have changed it to 12:15 in order to afford Oswald enough time to get up to the 6th floor.
The latter statement came many years later in an interview with a journalist. But, I put stock in her original statement. I think it is much more likely to be the truth.
16. Is it odd that the WC didn't interview Carolyn Arnold?
No, it's not odd at all. Six of Oswald's Marine buddies from Japan wanted to testify to the WC about the fact that Oswald was with them the whole time, and he wasn't doing anything with Russian, not saying anything in Russian, not studying Russian, nor saying he had any interest in learning Russian. But, none of them were allowed to testify. Look: the Warren Commission investigation was just like a Stalinist show trial. That's all it was.
17. Do you agree that Gorilla Man in the Martin film appears to be Lovelady?
No, not at all. He didn't look anything like Lovelady, and anatomically, he was a different man with different features. For Pete's sake, compare the ears.
18. Does it seem odd to you that Doorman was wearing a longsleeved shirt when Lovelady told the FBI he wore a short-sleeved striped shirt?
No, it doesn't seem odd because Doorman, who was Oswald, was wearing Oswald's very distinctive longsleeved shirt, one he must have brought back with him from Russia. We have it from Marina Oswald that that was his shirt. And regarding Lovelady's shortsleeved striped shirt, that's what catapulted the FBI into the movie business. Once they blew it by admitting that he wore the short-sleeved shirt and even photographing him in it, they realized that just retracting the statement and revising it wasn't good enough. So, they started fabricating images of him in a longsleeved shirt, starting with Gorilla Man. And it went on for decades. The last version of the phony squad room scene probably wasn't made until the 21st century.
19. If Oswald was in front, how come there are no known witnesses?
You have to realize the extent to which fear and intimidation were used to control witnesses after the JFK assassination. Even Buell Frazier admits that his life was threatened and so were the lives of his family. You can be sure that anyone who tried to breath a word about Oswald being in the doorway was pounced upon right away. You might say they were read the riot act, but they were read an act much worse than that. Look what happened to Joe Molina. They were probably afraid that he might say something about Oswald in the doorway. But, he knew better. He read the handwriting on the wall.
And look at it this way: there were 75 employees at the TSBD, and any of them could have been called to look at the Altgens photo. It didn't have to be someone who was there. Anyone who was familiar with both men could have rendered an opinion. So, they found two, Frazier and Arce, who would say that Doorman was Lovelady. And remember that they did move the "cap" of Lovelady over to Doorman, which does have a significant effect on how a person looks. But, they couldn't get Lovelady to say that he was Doorman. And, there were dozens of dozens of other people they could have asked but didn't.
20. What about what Frazier and Lovelady said about the latter's location in the doorway?
Lovelady said he "was on your top level" but he drew an arrow to Black Hole Man to indicate himself. And that settles it. He was Black Hole Man. Lovelady was standing on the top level next to Oswald. He was east of Oswald. Lovelady had his hands atop his head vizoring his eyes from the strong sun. Frazier was one step down in front of them, and you could also say he was in-between them. And, he was taken out of the Altgens photo. And you shouldn't be the least bit affected by anything Frazier is saying about it today. Frazier is a troubled man. He betrayed his friend, Lee Harvey Oswald, and he's been living with the guilt of that for 51 years. He's at the point where he is not only lying to everyone else, but he's also lying to himself. He seems to be incapable of telling the truth.
