Thanks, Ralph and Larry!
Yeah, that new “study” claiming to prove the Backyard photo is real both ticks me off and amazes me: the conspiracists just won’t let it go. Dartmouth didn’t address some of the obvious points as to why the photo is fake, and the press—of course—reports it uncritically as “fact."
I also think that Oswald (who, as you know, protested vociferously that the photo was fake) began to fully “wake up and smell the coffee” when they showed him that photo. Of course, the moment he was arrested he knew something was up, but until the moment of the photo, I’m not sure he fully realized just how deep and high the conspiracy to make him patsy went. At first, he hoped it was just some confusion, or just incompetent local policing (which is why he appeared somewhat cocky at first… he felt sure his handlers would come forward to rescue him and tell people he was a good guy/undercover/etc.... which, by the way, is what he meant when he said “Everyone will know who I am.” At that point, he was lamenting that his cover was blown and he couldn’t be the spy he wanted to be.
But the photo must have hit him like a ton of bricks: “Holy shit, the government is setting ME up for this!”
