Jim is a Scottish physician who spent much of his professional career caring for the war disabled at Erskine Hospital in Scotland. And it was the sight of the maimed and dismembered veterans that caused him to develop a revulsion to war and a deep desire to understand the causes of it.
As history books go, Hidden History is among the most outstanding and important ever written, in my opinion.
Currently, much attention and acclaim are being heaped on David Talbot for The Devil's Chessboard, and deservedly so. But, Hidden History, which I am currently reading, is every bit as good, and I suspect that David Talbot would agree if he read it.
Basically, Hidden History is the prequel to The Devil's Chessboard. The latter book is about Dulles and what he was able to do acting for the "deep state" including the killing of JFK. But, Hidden History is about the origin of the deep state.
And what you learn from reading it is that, in terms of the modern era, it (the deep state or shadow government) began at the turn of the century. And the kingpin, the prime mover of it was Cecil Rhodes, the Brit who made a killing in South Africa with his diamond mines. And I mean he made a killing in both senses of the word. He became fabulously wealthy; richer for his time than Bill Gates is in our time.
But, Rhodes was sick. He had some kind of congenital heart condition, and he knew he wasn't going to live long. In fact, he died at age 48. He also never married or had children. What he believed in more than anything else was: British supremacy. He absolutely and doggedly believed in the superiority of the British people, the British way of life, and the British government. "I contend that we are the finest race in the world and that the more of the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race."
In 1891, Rhodes returned to England from Africa, determined to start an association of wealthy and powerful people who were committed to Britain dominating the world. Initially, he brought in 4 other men who became his partners. They were:
William Stead, who was a prominent newspaperman in England at the time. From the beginning, they recognized the importance of controlling and dominating the press. Unfortunately for Stead, in 1912, he took a cruise on a little ship called the Titanic. And he wasn't among the survivors. However, with his help, they accomplished a heck of a lot by 1912; the dye was cast.
Lord Escher, whose real name was Reginald Brett, was a politician who had a long career, with his main focus being the military and in favor of militarism. He would play a huge role in the unfolding of The Great War (WW1).
Lord Nathaniel Rothschild, the international banker and financier, had a long established connection to Cecil Rhodes. It was Nathaniel Rothschild who bankrolled Rhodes diamond operation in southern Africa, by which Rhodes got fabulously wealthy, and Rothschild got fabulously wealthier. So, it was only natural that Rhodes would go to Rothschild.
Alfred Milner was a politician and government administrator who was very involved in the events in Africa including fomenting the disastrous Boar Wars. He described himself as a "British race patriot."
So, those five were the founding members of what Jim and Gerry refer to as the "Secret Elite" although I don't assume they called themselves that. But, here were their goals:
1) world domination, including military and economic domination by the British, and it very much included a racial bias. The subjugation and exploitation of non-white races was very much part of it.
2) partnering with the United States. From the start, they intended to bring influential Americans into it, seeing in advance the powerful role the United States would play in world politics and world economics in the 20th century. It would be an Anglo-American century. That was the idea from the start. From the beginning, more Rhodes scholarships were given to Americans than any others.
3) Crush the Germans. They hated the Germans. They feared the Germans. They feared their industrial and technological might and their growing military might. The Germans were out-competing the British and everyone else in steel production, vehicular production, instrument production, scientific progress in general, and more. They wanted to weaken the Germans; isolate the Germans; debase and denigrate the Germans. But, that wasn't enough. They avidly wanted war with Germany. They wanted the UK to get into a war with Germany, and they were willing to do anything to bring it about.
4) And to accomplish point 3, they wanted to put aside Britain's longstanding and historic conflicts with France and Russia, who were always considered their natural enemies because they knew that Germany was getting so powerful that it would take the combined military resources of all three countries to defeat Germany in a war.
So, you see that even before the turn of the 20th century, this Secret Elite had World War 1 in its sights. It took a while, but they eventually got their war.
And you can't overestimate the significance and importance of World War 1 because it set the direction and charted the course for the whole 20th century. For instance, if there hadn't been World War 1, there wouldn't have been World War 2, which was essentially just a continuation of World War 1 after a 20 year ceasefire. Hitler only rose to power in Germany because of the severe hardships on the German people that resulted from World War I and the extremely punitive and crushing reparations that were placed on Germany after the war. And without World War 2, would there have been a Cold War with the Soviets? And without the Cold War, which actually began during WW2 with Allen Dulles and the Nazi Reinhard Gehlen recruited from German intelligence, would there have been a Korean War? Then, would there have been the Vietnam War? Then, would there have been the JFK assassination? Seriously, all of that followed from World War 1.
So, when Jim Macgregor and Gerry Docherty say that this Secret Elite in Britain fomented World War 1, they might as have said that they fomented the entire course of the 20th century, which was, by far, the bloodiest, most genocidal, most inhumane and horrific century ever.

Puppet-Masters, the 'Men Behind the Curtain', the 'Wire Pullers' are
all one and the same. As Carroll Quigley revealed in his seminal The Anglo-
American Establishment they control politics, the press, education, and
the writing and teaching of history. They also control the banks, the
military-industrial complex and much more. Dulles was but one of their
long line of puppets when he/they took out the Kennedy threat. I humbly
suggest that it is impossible to fully understand JFK's brutal slaying
unless one understands the real power behind it. I am, of course, a
crazy conspiracy theory nut.
