Great news! Backes says that the FBI photos of Lovelady are stored in Archives II in College Park, Maryland. But, he thinks we should just accept the version shown by the Mary Ferrell Foundation. 

But, he acknowledges that there are two versions "with different brightness and contrast settings" which he calls a "small discrepancy." 

But, it's not a small discrepancy. It's a large discrepancy. And why should there be any discrepancy? It's only one set of pictures, and it had whatever brightness and contrast that it had. 

Furthermore, I have already explained to this asshole that I think it's unlikely that the version shown by the Mary Ferrell Foundation is the actual one. I think it's far more likely that the other, softer, shaded version is the one that J. Edgar sent. 

So, you God-damn right, moe-foe: what Mary Ferrell is claiming is not good enough for me. And, if you have any problem with that, then you can take it out on one of your proscenium arches. 

The image below, from the Mary Ferrell website, is a distorted image in which fill-light was applied to such an extreme degree that it deformed his face. 

In case you didn't notice it, Backass, he doesn't look human. Nobody has got an s-shaped face. 

So, I want to know who did this, and I want to know why they did it. I suspect it was done to make Lovelady look more like Gorilla Man.

It's not that they look so very much alike, but they look more alike than the other, softer Lovelady. These two both look mean and thugish, and that's a likeness. 

I think it's far more likely that the other form of the images is the one that was sent. 

And, this softer, shaded version is the one that you mostly see online. 

So, how did the Mary Ferrell Foundation come to show the other? And why do both exist? Inquiring minds want to know. Bloodied Kennedy-killers like Joseph Backes do not.
