There aren't a lot of videos of real shootings available, but here is one of a guy getting shot in the abdomen at close range with a TEC-9 semi-automatic pistol which uses a 9 mm bullet. That bullet is shorter than the 38 Special and is slightly narrower in diameter. 

This guy gets shot directly in the abdomen- not sideways through the rib cage and across the abdomen from left to right like Oswald. And, he's obviously not in as bad a condition as Oswald. For instance, he doesn't lose consciousness. However, he does go right down. He's shot, and he falls. There's no going up on his toes. You can watch it yourself. Start at the 50 second mark:

Again, he was not hurt as bad as Oswald, although he was described in critical condition. After that, the shooter actually tried to shoot him again, in the head, but the gun jammed, and the shooter fled. I think the poor guy survived. 

But again, the point is: the guy went down. Directly down to the ground. There was none of this:
