I have to laugh at this:
"Texas Sen. Ted Cruz slammed President Obama's historic trip to Cuba on Sunday, arguing that the United States is sending a dangerous message to “political prisoners languishing in dungeons across the island.”
“Nobody has your back, The world has forgotten about you.”
“They will not be on TV, rubbing elbows with the Obamas,” Cruz continued. “There will be no mojitos at the U.S. Embassy for them. Raúl Castro denies their very existence.”
The Republican presidential hopeful is the son of a Cuban immigrant “who was beaten and tortured” during former Cuban president-turned-dictator Fulgencio Batista’s regime before fleeing to the U.S."
So, Cruz' father was tortured by Batista, not by Castro. Castro is the one who got rid of Batista- the torturer. Batista was our man in Cuba. He was also the Mob's man. This is from Wikipedia:
By the end of Batista's rule, later described by U.S. President Kennedy as "one of the most bloody and repressive dictatorships in the long history of Latin American repression", many claim that up to 20,000 Cubans had been killed.
"Fulgencio Batista murdered 20,000 Cubans in seven years ... and he turned Democratic Cuba into a complete police state—destroying every individual liberty. Yet our aid to his regime, and the ineptness of our policies, enabled Batista to invoke the name of the United States in support of his reign of terror. Administration spokesmen publicly praised Batista—hailed him as a staunch ally and a good friend—at a time when Batista was murdering thousands, destroying the last vestiges of freedom, and stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the Cuban people, and we failed to press for free elections."
We have relations with Communist China, don't we? How many U.S. Presidents have gone there? Obama going to Cuba isn't going to make things worse for anyone who is currently in prison in Cuba. Besides, we have got our own political prisoners in Cuba. They are at a place called Guantanamo. What has Obama or Cruz done for any of them?
