In the very same image with the Ruby figure, you can see the NBC reporter Tom Petit with shadow over his face, and you can compare. Do you see how the shadow over his face looks like shadow? That it conforms to our experience and expectations of shadows? You know very well from looking at it that it is not an object. It has no three dimensionality. It has no inkyness. It just looks like shadow. But, what we are seeing on the right is nothing like that. It has form; it has three dimensionality. It has an intensity of blackness that goes way beyond the other. It is simply preposterous to claim that they both represent the same thing, shadow. There is a vast difference there. Night and day.
