I did a Google search for "Man wearing a fedora hat with black ribbon" and it didn't pull up any with a contrasting vertical stripe.

And really, we start with that. The idea that this is a black ribbon that just happened to be captured the way we see it:
is certainly NOT typical of our visual and photographic experience with these hats, and therefore, the burden of proof is on the person making the claim that that's a black ribbon innocently captured that way due to lighting. Let them take such a hat with a black ribbon and reproduce the visual effect we see above under comparable lighting conditions. And I don't mean kinda/sorta. I mean rigidly as distinctive as this is:
