I like to think that I am a realist- a realist living in a world of delusionists. Take Afghanistan. The hoopla is back. We're on the brink of peace again- a deal to be signed within days. Pompeo, Esper, and Trump have all been spewing about it. If those Taliban can deliver on the "reduction in violence" then the "intra-Afhan" peace talks can begin, and peace will be at hand. But wait. The Taliban have been saying all along, again and again, that they will not negotiate with the Afghan government. They don't recognize the Afghan government. But, the Afghan government ignores all that as it prepares for talks with the Taliban.

Afghan Govt Forming Peace Negotiations Team

The Afghan government so far has not disclosed the details of the team.

The Afghan government has begun work on forming the peace-negotiating team with the Taliban, said Waheed Omar, director general of the president's office of public and strategic affairs.
“The government will determine authorities of the negotiating team. The team will have about 15 members,” said Omar.
The peace negotiating team will handle the technical aspects of the talks and the final decision will be taken in Kabul, said Omar, amid reports that the peace deal between the US and Taliban will be “finalized” next week.
“The Taliban are fighting with the Afghan govt. If they don't agree to talk with the Afghan govt, there are no peace negotiations,” said Omar.
Meanwhile, a number of politicians have said that the Afghan government should make sure an inclusive peace-negotiating team is formed to avoid any possible obstacles in the process.
The statements were made at an event organized by the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) entitled "Assessing Recent Developments in the Afghan Peace Process."
However, the Afghan government so far has not disclosed the details of the team, but President Ashraf Ghani, in a meeting with governors on Monday, said that "only the Afghan government will determine the authority" of the team.
“We have lost many opportunities on many occasions. The current peace process is initiated by the Americans. My concern now is how much can we indigenize the process and take the lead?” asked former diplomat Jawed Ludin.
In addition, the Afghan government has expressed optimism about the recent progress in the talks between the United States and the Taliban.
Sediq Sediqqi, Palace spokesman, at a Tuesday press conference on President Ghani's recent trip to the Munich Security Conference, said that the US-Taliban peace deal is "conditional" and will be "finalized next week."
“Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, and Mark Esper, US Secretary of Defense, in a meeting with President Ghani told him that none of the peace agreement article is 'without conditions,'” Sediqqi said.
The peace deal between the US and Taliban will be “finalized” next week, Sediqqi said, adding that “peace is a priority for the government and the president, and our peace will be national--not on one side.”

RC: So, what is the Taliban saying? Here is what they are saying as of today:

Reality of shameless political tourists in Kabul

Reality of shameless political tourists in Kabul

The current and previous Kabul administrations are a setup of the foreign invaders following the invasion of Afghanistan by America and her coalition partners in 2001. The Kabul administration and its elite dual national leadership whose families reside in western countries are a bunch of political tourists brought as the result of American intervention and enforced upon Afghans. These supposed leaders have absolutely no legitimacy and support from the common Afghans. They live in their own bubble where their servitude to their American masters is their freedom. The regime and its leadership have crossed all the barriers of criminality, murder, corruption, plunder and immortality — a divided house of national traitors, each advancing the interests of his own foreign sponsor.
There remains no bond between the regime leadership and the general population of Afghanistan as clearly demonstrated by the Afghans when they boycotted the staged elections. The regime itself violates all norms of so called western democracy as every minister and official is appointed not on basis of merit but on the nature of his corrupt skills — a fact annually confirmed by their western backers. This artificial “state” built by the Americans in Afghanistan has been one of the biggest disasters of the modern conflicts because the people do not want these imposed slaves nor do they wish to be associated with them.
The corrupt Kabul elite cannot continue to hold the nation hostage. Peace shall prevail and these political tourists who see their survival under the shadow of their masters shall be brought to justice. Unlike the Kabul regime which is supported by the Americans and their allies, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate are backed by the ordinary Afghan volunteers from every sector of the Afghan society and despite over trillion dollar expenditure and nearly two decades of brutalities, the enemy has failed in their efforts of subduing, dividing and enslaving the Afghans.
The current American administration and its international coalition partners must understand that the backing of this regime will only prolong the war and suffering for the Americans and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan shall continue to defend its believing nation from this evil regime of tyrannical slaves.
Therefore, the only solution in this situation remains that the Americans stop interfering in Afghanistan and let Afghans decide their own fate otherwise, the longest war for American history shall become the forever war which will ultimately lead to the fall of the American Empire just like the Soviets before them.
