Americans mire in delusion rather than face reality.

"I really bristle, and I know a lot of other veterans do too when I hear people say the Afghan war was a failure,’’  Congressman Waltz said. "I certainly think we could have done a lot of things better across multiple administrations. But the fact that we haven't suffered another 9/11 — and that al-Qaida has been pressured and decimated — is a success. From a counterterrorism standpoint, Americans are safe because of it.”

RC: I put that thought process to work in my film, The Pro Bono Watchman, in which an old man Hank is monitoring the visits between a 6 year old girl Bonnie and her wayward father who has a violent past. On one outing to the park, he observes her asking her father for a handkerchief, but he doesn't have one. Hank, however, does have a clean handkerchief, so he goes up and offers it to her.

 HANK

Young Lady, may I offer you a nice, clean, fresh handkerchief?

Then he hands it to her. She takes it and blows her nose. Then, she makes it into a ball and hands it back to him.

BONNIE

Thank you.

HANK

You’re welcome.

BONNIE

I know who you are. You’re the man who follows us. Daddy says you’re like his shadow. So, I call you Shadow Man.

HANK

Hmmm, that isn't bad. In fact, that's pretty good. But, I think I would rather be called Watch Man. Because that’s who I really am: the Watchman.

BONNIE

Who are you watching?

HANK

I’m watching you, Darlin’.

BONNIE

Why are you watching me?

HANK

To make sure nothing happens to you.

BONNIE

What could happen to me?

HANK

Well, let’s see. You could, ah...

Hank is thinking.

HANK (CONT’D)

You could get, ah...

Still thinking.

HANK (CONT’D)

Bit by a tiger.

BONNIE

But, there are no tigers around here.

HANK

You see how good a Watchman I am?
