What I like best about Christmas are the songs because there are so many great ones, and that includes this one from 1953, composed by Phil Springer, with lyrics by Joan Javits: Santa Baby. And Phil is still alive and kicking at the age of 94. He wrote a lot of songs, but he'll always be remembered as the guy who wrote Santa Baby.
The song was written for the great Eartha Kitt, but following her came Marilyn Monroe, and many others, including modern singers like Taylor Swift and Gwen Stefani. And singing it this evening is a very talented local Austin singer with a charming voice, Hannah Vaughn.
The song is a "doo-wop" which is a 4 chord progression that was very popular in the 1950s. Usually, it went 1-6-4-5, but this one goes 1-6-2-5. But either way, I like how the doo-wop shuffles, and it's fun. Thank you, Hannah.
