I have attempted to draw plane lines for the road and the sign in this photo, and it's just a crude approximation. However, I think the mind's eye agrees with it, that we get the sense of a wide angle there.

And here it is for the Zapruder sign, and we get the sense of the narrow angle between the two. 

All I could do for the sign was draw a line across the top of it. And then for the road, I tried to approximate its direction. Again, it's crude, but again, I think the mind's eye agrees with it, that the sign is largely facing the road and is not perpendicular to it. And there is no reason to think that Zapruder's camera would have captured it like that. Here is a picture of someone standing on Zapruder's spot.

In this case, the camera is obviously behind her and to the left of her and above her. But, she is looking the right direction from Zapruder's spot. So, what is she seeing? And the mind has no trouble accepting that if there were a sign there right about at the center of that stretch of Elm Street that it would manifest just as it does below, but adjusted for the slight angular difference.
