The whole idea that the press was hounding Curry to give them more access to Oswald is ridiculous. We're not talking about heads of networks. We are talking about lowly reporters. And the idea that they would have had the nerve to say that to Curry is absurd. A policeman is a figure of authority. And the Chief of Police is a much higher authority. The idea that any reporter was going to go up to him with such a complaint is preposterous.
So, don't think of it as real. It's no more real than the hundreds of phone calls coming in Sunday morning threatening Oswald's life- as if vigilantes would warn police of their intentions.
It wasn't a reason for holding the Midnight Press Conference; it was just an excuse for holding it.
And the proof of the pudding is that it no sooner started than it stopped. Oswald only spoke and answered questions for ONE MINUTE before it was all over. Anyone who felt driven to have it at all would surely have let it continue for more than a minute. It's not that the press conference ended; it's that they changed their mind about having it. The press conference got aborted.
