This is another great and insightful article about the killing of Suleimani by John Risen of The Intercept, which is one of the best news-analysis websites on the net. He makes the case that the killing of Suleimani was provoked by the realization that the US is losing control of Iraq, that the Iraqi government was leaning warmly toward Iran, and that Suleimani had become a hero among Iraqis.

Trump announced today that the "imminent threat" that was cited to justify killing Suleimani was that he was going to blow up the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. Well, that is ridiculous. That embassy is the most heavily fortified embassy in the entire world, bar none. Suleimani went there as an envoy for the Iranian government. It was a formal diplomatic mission. Risen explains that Suleimani was more than a general. He was a figurehead for the whole country of Iran. But, he was in Iraq, which was not his country, and the idea that he was going to attack the most colossus embassy in the world from another country is preposterous.

And, what was it based on? Probably on some dissident who said he overheard that Suleimani was going to do that, and it had as much veracity as the Iraqi dissidents fearmongering about Saddam and his weapons. I get the picture now that when they talk about Suleimani being a terrorist what they mean is that they blame him for everything. They said he's responsible for killing hundreds of Americans. Do you know what that's based on? It's based on the fact that during the war, there were Shite militias fighting us in Iraq, who killed some Americans, and therefore, Suleimani is responsible for killing them. But, we attacked them. We crossed the ocean to attack them. We were the terrorists. When you invade another country, and their soldiers fight back, it doesn't make them terrorists; it makes you terrorists.

But, read Risen because the truth has risen.
