This just in from Professor James Norwood, and I couldn't agree more.

I came across this article that offers examples of photos that were altered during the regime of Josef Stalin:

This string of photos demonstrates that sophisticated techniques of forgery were used as far back as 1917, in order to remove undesirable objects (typically, people) from photos.

This kind of propaganda is the hallmark of the totalitarian state, as apparent in the long and tragic Stalinist era.

One of the reasons there is such reluctance for people to admit that the Altgens photo was altered is that it would equate the tactics used by the ruling elite of the United States government in 1963 with the same practices of the abhorrent enemy, the Soviet Union.

That truth may not be easy to swallow. But it is nonetheless the truth.
