Watch this video of a guy shooting a Colt Cobra, which is the gun that Ruby owned and which was, presumably, shot in the basement. I want you to hear how loud it is.

Now, imagine it being shot in the confined cubbyhole of that basement, where all it could do was bounce off the walls. How loud would it have been? How startling would it have been?-especially if you weren't expecting it.
And yet, in the Jackson photo, which was supposedly taken after the shot, where Oswald already slapped his arm to his chest from being shot, no one in the image looks startled. The Blackie substitute is calmly smoking his cigar. (he isn't Blackie). Tom Petit is stanind there cool as a cucumber. Detective Lowery is still clasping his hands in front like a Jehovah's Witness at the door. A shot just went off; one just like the one heard in this video. Yet, no one is affected by it.
A startle reaction is a reflex. It happens automatically. And it happens instantly in response to jarring, unexpected happenstance.
That photo is staged, and there was no shot when it was taken. And even afterwards at the Garage Spectacle, the gun's report was very mild. It may be because the blank Bookhout used just didn't have much explosive powder.
