I just had the very moving experience of watching a short film called Battle Fields which was made by the man who served as the Arab cultural adviser on My Stretch of Texas Ground.
His name is Anouar Smaine, and he has a long history of involvement in film, as writer, actor, director, and producer. He wrote this story, and he starred in it, alongside Sean Stone, the son of Oliver Stone.
Battle Fields is about the human consequences of the Iraq War and the unlikely meeting of an Iraqi refugee, who works as a limo driver in L.A., and an Iraq War veteran who is severely damaged with PTSD. It is very gut-wrenching. You can watch the trailer here:
I think Anouar was driven by the same anguish I felt about the wars which drove me to write My Stretch of Texas Ground.
