This is a chance encounter between Sheriff Joe Haladin and the lead terrorist, Abdul Latif Hassan. It occurs at a rural gas station, a real funky one. It reminds me of the one in No Country For Old Men. This gas station was NOT operational, but it used to be. But, what a perfect set it was for us. So, Hassan gets there first, and then the sheriff shows up. He can't start pumping, because his pump is out of order. So, he just has to wait for Hassan to finish. And they make small talk. Of course, Hassan knows who the sheriff is, but the sheriff knows nothing about Hassan- at this point. Hell has not started raining down on Arlettsville yet- but it will soon. These guys were great in this scene. It is one of my favorite scenes from the movie because they really finessed it.
