So, we know now that she's got her thumb extended but her fingers curled into a partial fist. 

But, do you think she could have her fingertips pressed to the window? Something like this?

Well, I don't think her hand could have reached the top of that window. She didn't have the reach because she didn't have her upper arm extended. It was just her forearm. Her elbow was bent, not straight. So, how could she reach the top of that window?

Try it yourself. With your elbow bent about as much as hers is, how far is it going to take your hand? I don't think it was physically or mathematically possible for her to get her hand to that spot doing what it appears to be doing. It was too far away. Maybe if she straightened her elbow she could get there, but even that's a maybe. Nevertheless, I think it's an interesting question as to what is being implied by the picture.

Of course, it is beyond doubt that the gross impression of the picture is that she was waving just like JFK was.

 Don't you think that if you asked 100 people what is going on in this picture that the vast majority, over 95%, would say that it's Jack and Jackie waving at the crowd and in the same way? And don't you think that that was the impression that TIME magazine was trying to make?  

But, now you know that she wasn't waving at all, don't you? That stripe in the road conveniently makes it look like it's her right hand and that it's waving. One thing is for sure: people don't wave with their fingers curled. They also don't wave in one direction while looking in a different direction. When they're waving, they look in the same direction that they're waving. They look at the people to whom they are waving. 

So, this is wrong physically, mathematically, and even behaviorly. It's weird.
