No, Backes! You stupid fool! I don't care what that book says. The military record shows that Lee was in the Far East in February 1958. In fact, he happened to be in the Philippines. His unit left from Japan in November by ship and didn't return to Atsugi until March. There is no chance that he was in Texas at that time.

When Lee finished his tour of duty in the Far East, he arrived in San Francisco by ship on November 15, 1958. Then, he went on 30 day leave, beginning November 19, and that is when he went to Texas to visit his mother and brother. And that was when this picture was taken. 

So, it could have been late November, but it was more likely in December, since he spent three weeks of December there and only one week of November. 

And then he went to El Toro, and then he disappeared. He dropped out. Don't think for one second that he went to Russia.
