Andy Williams Well, that I don't believe, and it's because Oswald came across very lucid and intelligent and eloquent at the Midnight Press Conference. He seemed like the most intelligent person in the room, and they would not have wanted to help him make such an impression. In fact, Oswald did so much damage at the Midnight Press Conference, that they had to do damage control the next day by tricking Attorney H Louis Nichols into thinking that he met with the real Oswald, who turned down his offer of a lawyer. What they did was wait until Oswald was removed from his cell and taken to the 3rd floor for his Saturday evening interrogation, and while he was gone, they put an Oswald double in his cell, and that is who met with Nichols and turned down his offer of a lawyer. And I think that is very likely the reason why Oswald lived until Sunday. I think they were prepared to pull off shooting him on Saturday, but they knew they had to do the damage control from the MPC first . Detective James Leavelle wore his Easter suit not just on Sunday but also on Saturday. It was very inappropriate of him to wear it at all. One of his best friends, JD Tippit, was killed on Friday, and also the President of the United States. So, why wear a festive, sunny Easter suit on Saturday? He wore it because they were going to dress Oswald in black, and that way, there would be a lot of contrast between Leavelle and Oswald, to make it easy for Bookhout to aim the gun at the right person. So no, I don't think they had any influence on what Oswald said at the MPC. It's apparent that something happened that they could not go through with shooting him at the MPC, as they intended. Perhaps Ruby was not in a location for them to claim that he did it. But, the reason why they aborted the MPC so soon, just a minute and 3 seconds after Oswald began to speak, was because he was doing so much harm to them. It tells you that he was doing a lot of damage in stating, over and over. that Dallas Police were denying him a lawyer. He devoted his entire MPC speech to that.
