After the assassination, they eliminated the convertible feature and gave it a permanent top, which they called the "greenhouse".
- Addition of permanent non-removable top ("greenhouse") to accommodate transparent armor
So again, I ask: where was the photographer located when taking this picture?
He could not have been outside the car because Lady Bird is obviously looking at him, and she is looking practically straight ahead. She's looking a very little bit to her left, which means that he must have been in the car hugging the left door. He could not have been outside the car because then the angle would have been completely different.
So, you had three people in this car, like their own little world, their own little planet. So, how could LBJ not be tuned into what was happening? How could he not be looking at the camera? How could he possibly be doing what he appears to be doing, which is brooding?
The limo seems to be in a natural setting. I've added some fill-light to show it better. There are trees and apparently grass seen out the window.
Now, if the President is going to go somewhere in his limo, they pull it into the White House driveway.
So, for the picture with LBJ brooding in the limo with his wife, where was it taken? Was it parked on that road somewhere?
What troubles me the most is the guy in the white coat. He's no Secret Service agent, but he's talking to two guys who look like they could be. Who is that guy? And who is the lone figure behind him?
Now, let's compare to a similar image of Gerald Ford and his wife.
In the picture with the Fords, the limo is on a highway; it's moving along. So, the photographer clearly has to be in front of them in the car. They're not looking at the camera, but that's because they are engaged with each other. It's supposed to be a "slice of life" picture, not a formal posing for the camera. But, in the picture with the Johnsons, Lady Bird is clearly engaged with the photographer; she is posing; while LBJ is off in his own world, ignoring both of them. But notice how dark the lighting is for the Johnson picture. It's blackish, right? Except for LBJ and his wife. Don't they look like they are pasted-in compared to Ford and his wife who look natural?
