I really do believe that actors can be, and often are, very noble and courageous people, and that got confirmed to me again tonight from an article I came across.
The article mentioned three actors who recently made courageous statements acknowledging the horrific loss of life in the Iraq War, and I mean Iraqi lives. Over 5000 Americans died, and that's a terrible tragedy, but the death toll for Iraqis is "hundreds of thousands-and more" as Junes Zahdi put it in our movie, which was his own line by the way. The aritcle concerned Ellen Degeneres whooping it up and having a playful time with George W. Bush at a game.
Tim Robbins made a statement that it's fine to reach across the aisle but George W. Bush needs to be held accountable for the the Iraq War. "He's responsible for a lot of death."
John Cusack said that you don't have normal relations with a mass murderer.
And Mark Ruffalo said that George Bush needs to be "brought to justice for the crimes of the Iraq War."
These are very strong statements by very brave men, who are willing to risk being ostracized, because it is not politically correct to say such things, even though they are true.
Here is the link to the article:
And I have to think that they would appreciate knowing that we made a movie that laments the horrific loss of life in the post-9/11 wars, that we care about it, just as they do.
