This is an incredibly sad story. This Canadian woman, Reine Dawe, has been selected to represent the mothers who lost sons (or presumably daughters) in Afghanistan. She actually had 4 sons in the Canadian Army, and now, she has 3. This one, Matt, her youngest, got killed by an IED in Afghanistan.

I have to wonder how 4 brothers all decided that they wanted the same thing in life: to become soldiers. I suspect their father, on the right, was military.

But, what makes this story incredibly sad is that this picture was followed by a picture of this young man with his family: his young wife and baby son. And I am not going to put that picture up here. That wouldn't feel right. But, that picture is enough to bring tears to your eyes looking at that sweet family. And now that baby will never know his father at all.  He'll have no memories of him. He's too young.

Why did Canada have to get involved in this war? They weren't attacked on 9/11. And the U.S. Military doesn't need help from Canada. The U.S. Military spends more than all the other countries in the world combined. Why is it fair to expect young Canadians to fight and die for the United States?

And this was a quarrel between the United States and Afghanistan. The U.S. said that someone in Afghanistan was responsible for 9/11, but it never gave any evidence that the Afghan government was involved. We never gave any evidence that the man we claimed was involved was involved.  But then, to avoid war, the Afghan government offered to turn him over to a neutral third country for trial.

That wasn't good enough for the U.S. government, but why wasn't it good enough for the Canadian government? Their responsibility is not to the U.S., but to their own people, to keep them safe. They're not the 51st state.

As I said, I won't put up the image of the young family, but, I'll post the link where you can see it. You'll have to scroll down when you get there.
