I agree with you Juliette that the first moment Oswald knew something was wrong was when Baker pointed a gun at him. But, I also think it's possible that he didn't know at that moment that Kennedy was mortally wounded. Hear me out.
First, Oswald left that doorway for the lunch room very early. He must have because it's the only way he could have beaten Baker to the lunch room. Remember that Baker was running. In the Couch film, you can see him running. He estimated that he got to the steps 10 seconds after the last shot. Even if he was wrong about that, it could not have been too much longer. Perhaps 15 seconds? We know Oswald wasn't running for two reasons: the first is that his running through the building would have attracted attention, which it didn't. The second thing is that both Baker and Truly reported that he was not the least bit winded, flushed, or the least bit spent. So, he had not physically exerted himself. He didn't run.
So, how did Oswald get to the lunch room ahead of Baker without running? He must have had a sizable head-start.
Second, I think we should assume that Oswald was instructed to leave the doorway and go to the lunch room. Why would he have left on his own accord? Because he desired a Coke? That is preposterous.
I strongly believe that Oswald left the doorway very soon after the Altgens photo was taken- within 1 second- or 2 at the most. The reason I believe it is because of what I see in the Wiegman film.
You see Oswald standing there in the Wiegman film- for the first second of it. It's clearly him: his rectangular head, his slender build, his gaping outer shirt. And it corresponds very closely in time to the Altgens photo. But, at the 4 second mark of the film, Wiegman turned his camera back to the TSBD doorway, what is called the second pass. Why did he do that? He was filming down Elm Street, which is where the action was. So, why did he swing around to the right and film the doorway again?
I think Wiegman may have heard something, a commotion, or seen something out of the corner of his eye, and so he swung around. And by the time he got there, Oswald was gone; they had gotten him to leave. But, they needed him to be there, so they stuck another Doorman figure into the film. The 2nd Wiegman Doorman does not have the same features as the 1st Wiegman Doorman, who was Oswald. Just look at these two men. Are they the same man? Why think that? The shape of their heads is different. Their builds are different. Their shirts are different. They are facing differently. Look at the round, cherubic look of the 2nd Doorman in contrast to the gaunt, starved look of the 1st Doorman. Why accept that they are the same guy?
So, I say they put the 2nd Wiegman Doorman into the film to take the place of Oswald, who left. Now, what time did he leave? I can't say exactly, but it's possible that Oswald left before the fatal head shot. If you do the Math on the timing, it's very close. Oswald may have left before it was over, which makes it even more strange that he would leave. He must have been told to leave.
This really isn't such a strange idea because all conspiracists believe that Oswald was told to go to the theater. There isn't anybody who thinks he had a hankering for a war movie. Oswald was following orders when he went there, and they may have come from Jack Ruby. It was probably Bill Shelley who told him to go to the lunch room.
But again, when you do the Math on the timing, you realize that he had to have left early, before it was over, and it's possible that Oswald had no awareness that Kennedy was mortally wounded.
And I don't believe Baker or Truly said anything to him about that, but their actions had to convey to Oswald that something was terribly wrong. Then, reportedly, Mrs. Reid made a comment to him about what happened.
But, I realize that it all comes down to evidence, and the evidence is this collage. Study it closely- in detail. There is no way that those two are the same man 3 seconds apart.
