The two main things that Brooten did for the HSCA was to travel to Mexico City to depose witnesses pertaining to Oswald's alleged trip there. (Note: Oswald NEVER went to Mexico City, and he said so himself. The only place in Mexico he ever went was Tijuana.)
So, in Mexico City, Brooten deposed David Atlee Phillips. And he was very thorough about it because it resulted in a 135 page deposition. He also deposed the Tarasoffs, and that resulted in 109 pages. But, when he went to Denver to meet Billy Lovelady, did he depose him? Well, yes and no. Nothing exists. Not a word. But, Larry Rivera did find this:
That's from the HSCA Audio Accession Preservation List, and it shows a 5 hour interview of Billy and Patricia Lovelady.
5 hours? That's incredible. What could they possibly have been talking about for 5 hours? There was only one very narrow issue concerning Lovelady: was he or was he not the Man in the Doorway? It's not a minor issue, but it is a narrow issue. So, what did they talk about for 5 hours? If Lovelady talked for 5 hours on that occasion, it was probably more talking about the Doorman issue than he had done in all the years since 1963 combined.
So, what happened to the tapes? They NEVER surfaced. And even with the ARRB, there was nothing to release. The only words that came out of that 5 hour interview was this written statement:
Notice that Brooten served as a witness for Lovelady's statement, and as I have pointed out, the man in the doorway is NOT wearing a plaid shirt. It is not the least bit plaid. Plaid means checkered, and there isn't a single check on Doorman's shirt. So, why did Lovelady refer to it as being plaid(ed)? Because that's how others referred to it, and he was going along. He didn't give a shit. "I'll call it anything you want; just get me the hell out of this."
Brooten must have made a conscious decision to destroy those tapes. That's why we don't have them. That's why they never materialized.
BROOTEN WAS ABSOLUTELY COMMITTING TO DISPROVING OSWALD IN THE DOORWAY, AND HIS MIND WAS MADE UP ABOUT IT BEFORE HE WENT TO DENVER.
Stop thinking that Brooten was an honest broker, Backes. He was a government lawyer doing the government's bidding. Stop thinking that if the truth led to Oswald in the doorway that Brooten would have recognized it and allowed it and honored it. Brooten was as determined to not find for that as Joseph Ball.
The only ones that Backass wants to assign wrongdoing to in the investigation of JFK's murder are Detectives Sims and Boyd who reported finding this bus transfer ticket in Oswald's pocket.
Yeah, that's the ticket. Those two low-level Dallas detectives were in on framing Oswald but the high-powered federal attorney Ken Brooten was clean as a whistle.
You're stupid, Backes. You were born stupid, and, you're going to stay that way.
