I am now willing to admit that Robin Unger makes a good case for the black man in Altgens and in Wiegman being Carl Jones and not Roy Lewis.

I see two major factors for Jones:

1) Roy Lewis was only 17, and the black man in Wiegman is clearly a mature man and not a boy. Carl Jones was 33, and that looks about right for the age of that man.

2) The black man in Wiegman is wearing light clothes. We don't know the exact color since it's a black and white image, but it certainly appears to be light. But, Roy Lewis was dressed in dark clothes.

I am convinced enough about this that I have gone onto the OIC website and changed all the references to Roy Lewis to Carl Jones.

This was not a mistake distinctive to me. It seems that everyone on both sides was calling the guy Roy Lewis. Even Backes, in making his dorky artwork, referred to the man as Roy Lewis.

And keep in mind that, this is just a nominative thing, meaning that the name is the only thing that got changed. I continue to maintain that Carl Jones was against the west wall at the time the Altgens photo was taken, and therefore, he was largely out of view to Altgens. And there is certainly no reason to believe that Carl Jones was turned and looking east, as he appears to be doing in Altgens. I continue to maintain that these are both images of Carl Jones.

And that's exactly what Unger maintains.

The difference is that Unger apparently maintains that both Willis and Altgens happened to catch near-identical shots of him. But, I say that is impossible- unless you are going to argue that Carl picked himself up and moved to the center of the doorway. Because, from where he was against the west wall, he could not be seen by Altgens.

Unger put this up, and I presume it was a statement by Carl Jones:
"On November 22, 1963 at approximately 12:25,PM
I stood by myself on the inside of the front entrance of the
Texas School Book Depository Building
 to watch President
John F. Kennedy come by the building in a motorcade . I heard
three shots fired from somewhere above me, but was unable to see
the person who fired them.

I'd say that describes the position of the black man in Wiegman quite well. And note that he said he stood by himself. As I've said, the Doorman figure hovering over Carl Jones in Hughes is fake.

So again, it's not my personal mistake any more than that of others. Everyone seemed to think it was Roy Lewis, and it was uncontested. I followed the herd on that one.

Is this good work on Robin Unger's part?  I must admit it is.
