Let's settle something, once and for all. The tall man in the center of this photo is not James Bookhout; he is Texas Ranger Bob Crowder.
I have quite a few comparisons of him to Bob Crowder that I will post in the Comments. But first, let's look at the text. It says that Bob Crowder is checking the exhibits with FBI Agents Manning Clements and James Bookhout. So, in the wording, there is a pairing of the two FBI agents, distinguishing them from Crowder. That makes sense because Crowder is standing apart from them. Can you see that the man closest to the exhibit is apart from them slightly? It's them and him. And it makes sense that the text would start by talking about the man in the center because the eye goes to him and the exhibit, while the other two guys have a marginal presence. It would make no sense to start the description of this photo by talking about the man on the far left, who is actually cut off. He is peripheral. You don't start by talking about the peripheral guy. You start by talking about the guy in the center.
So, who is that guy on the edge? He's not James Bookhout, but I do believe he is covering up James Bookhout. Short James Bookhout was there, and it was easy to cover him up with that tall guy. But, was that guy in the picture really that tall? No. I am sure he wasn't. First, look how old he is. That is an old face. I'm 72, and he looks a lot older than me. If you told me he was 82, I wouldn't argue with you. Bob Crowder died when he was younger than I am now. He was 71 when he passed. I think this was 5 years after the assassination, so 1968, when Bob Crowder was 67, and you can't tell me that crochety old man is 67. Look how his head is bowed. He has a condition called Forward Neck Syndrome. Bob Crowder did not have that. Bob Crowder stood straight and tall with a very straight back. He did not slump or hunch. There is no way that bent old man is Bob Crowder.
But, he is not James Bookhout either. James Bookhout was short. James Bookhout told the Warren Commission that he was watching the motorcade on Main Street but he never got to see the President because there were people in front of him. A tall man would not have said that.
And keep in mind that this article did not appear until after I started bellyaching that there were no images of Bookhout. If it's been around since 1968, why wasn't it known and cited before me? Wasn't anyone interested in getting a glimpse of James Bookhout.
I am going to post comparison images now in the Comments. But, I'll close by pointing out that the son of James Bookhout, Jim Bookhout, lives in the Dallas area. He is a Constable there, and he runs a charity that raises money for the families of fallen law enforcement officers in Texas. I am sure he is an honorable man. So, I would be all for showing him the picture of that tall guy and asking him if that's dear old Dad. James W. Bookhout was born in 1914. So, if that photo is from 1968, then James Bookhout was 54. Does that crotchety old man look 54? He looks like he could have a son who was 54.
