This will be the last song for a while, but it's a beauty. And it was written under duress. Arthur Schwartz was under contract to write a song for the 1931 Broadway revue called The Band Wagon, but he was struggling. He couldn't come up with anything. But then, when he was out walking his dog, a musical idea hit him, and he and the dog ran home so that he could sit down at the piano and get it down on paper before it slipped away. And the rest, as they say, is history, as it is one of the most hypnotically beautiful songs ever written, and ever danced to by the great Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. It is: Dancing in the Dark.
