Joseph Backes succeeded at getting Professor McKnight to reject being a member of the OIC.

However, I called Dr. McKnight again myself tonight to plead my case, and he agreed that it was OK if I stated that he is an advocate of Oswald-in-the-doorway, so long as I don't list him as a member of our group.

Fair enough. That is what I did. And just to be on the ultra-safe side, I didn't say one word about what he believes. Instead, I simply quoted him directly. That's all. I didn't put any words in his mouth. I didn't summarize his position. I simply quoted the man.

Where did I get the quote? I listened to his debate from last Christmas, and when it got to the part where he spoke about Oswald being the Man in the Doorway, I wrote down every word he said. Therefore, the only words I have concerning Dr. Gerald McKnight are his own words.

His words from that debate, and that is all.

But, he and I did talk some tonight, and after listening to me, he asked me: "Where does Backes say that Oswald was during the shots?" And I told him, that as far as I know, Backes just says that he was somewhere in the building. He refuses to commit himself. And, I explained to Dr. McKnight that since it was a big building, if you don't know where he was in the building, you really don't know THAT he was in the building. If, for all you know, he could have been in this room, in that room, on the stairs, in the office, in the toilet, etc. then he also could have stepped outside. And it is especially true in this case because Oswald was only BARELY outside. He was just a few feet out the front door on the top landing.

The actual fact is: there is no place else Oswald could have been at the time of the shots except the top landing. He wasn't eating. He wasn't drinking. And he named someone who was standing in that doorway at the time: Bill Shelley. Oswald could not have known that Shelley was there unless he saw him there. Even if you assume that Oswald just surmised that Shelley was outside, Shelley could have been anywhere in Dealey Plaza. How did Oswald know that Shelley was specifically right there in the doorway? He must have seen him there.
