What better wish is there for the New Year than peace? I have often cited the Brown University study from November 2018, showing that 500,000 people died in the War on Terror. But they have updated it as of November 2019, now asserting a death toll at 800,000. But, that considers only the "direct' deaths. It does not include the deaths from destroyed infrastructure, contaminated water and other war-borne diseases, and the malnutrition and lack of medical care that result from war. Including all that puts the death toll at 3 million, they say.
It is my sincere hope that My Stretch of Texas Ground helps turn people against the wars and against the whole culture of war. As Bobby Darin sang to us so beautifully, "We, the people here, don't want a war."
