What troubles me most about this picture is: why isn't Foley resisting?

Why isn't Foley twisting and turning? Why isn't he writhing and thrashing to resist?  

I know the beheader is holding him, but we're talking about some very strong muscles. Why didn't Foley press his chin down to his chest before it even started? Those are powerful muscles, and that guy would have have had a hard time lifting Foley's chin- or even grabbing it- against Foley's resistance if he was pressing down hard. And, Foley doesn't look like any slouch. 

Is he at a disadvantage? Of course. Is the guy with the knife going to be able to prevail? Eventually. But, you go down fighting, don't you? You don't cooperate with your killers, do you?

And, Foley knew it was being videotaped. Didn't he want to show his family that life with them meant so much to him that he fought like a dog to the end?

Foley was on the O'Reilly Factor during the Libya debacle. He was captured by Gadaffi's forces and held for 46 days before pressure from his family got him released.

So, after he survives that, he goes into Syria? Why? What for? Because he was so dedicated to being a journalist in war zones?  He had also been to Iraq and Afghanistan. 

Here is Foley's speech. It sounds like a prepared speech to me, and he was amazingly lofty and eloquent for a guy who was about to have his head cut off. And he blames America for his imminent death.

Obviously, that could not have been his view all along. He didn't  sound anti-American on the Bill O'Reilly show. I'm sure he regarded Americans as the good guys then. So, what happened? Did his captors brainwash him? Was this like Stockholm Syndrome, like when Patty Hearst joined the Symbionese Liberation Army? 

But, Stockholm Syndrome is described as a hostage mistaking the lack of abuse by his captors for decency. But, in this case, they were about to brutally kill him, and they didn't even have the decency to do it in a way that was instantaneous and painless, such as shooting him in the head. So, how was he brainwashed? What washed his brain? 

Here are James Foley's parents. How could they go on a whirlwind media tour right after their son was beheaded, program after program after program? It's more than one page of links of their interviews.

Some have said that Foley cooperated with his killers in order to save other hostages. But, how could he know other hostages would be saved? They would have had to release them before they killed him, but they didn't do that.
