It's not that I know the Altgens were murdered; it's that no one can say for sure that they weren't.
You should realize that there are essentially two ways to die of natural causes: slowly and suddenly.
Dying suddenly refers to experiencing a catastrophic event, such as a heart attack or stroke or pulmonary embolism or ruptured aneurysm or SOMETHING that kills you quickly.
Now, we know that neither of the Altgens died that way because the autopsy would have shown it.
So, that leaves dying slowly, such as wasting away from cancer or dying of Alzheimer's disease or some other chronic illness.
Backes mentioned the flu, but even that doesn't kill unless, say, it develops into pneumonia. But again, the autopsy would have shown that.
You think that BOTH Altgens and his wife were sick enough to die of pneumonia? Well, even if each of them didn't care about their own self, wouldn't they have called a doctor or called an ambulance for the other?
When people are old, they understand that they are more delicate and vulnerable. Altgens was a sharp guy, wasn't he? He loved his wife, didn't he? If he thought his wife was at risk of dying, he'd have called 911, right? Wouldn't she have done the same for him?
How come we never got the autopsy results?
From the New York Times: "Mr. Altgens, who was retired, and his wife, Clara, 73, were both found dead at the home, The Associated Press reported. The Dallas Morning News reported on Friday that relatives said the couple had been suffering from the flu but that the police were looking into the possibility that they had died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a defective furnace."
The possibility of a carbon monoxide leak was all that was ever reported. Why didn't we get a detailed determination? Authorities HAD to have been able to figure out what happened to them. Why weren't we told?
Carbon monoxide may be odorless, but this really stinks. It smells bad. It's not that I know they were murdered, it's that I know that this whole scenario sounds very suspicious. And therefore, it is a suspicious death, and it shall remain a suspicious death.
