Why would Martin Hindricks give the African-American woman a grey nose? Her skin was brown; it wasn't grey. The skin of her nose was the same color as her skin elsewhere. So, why did he color her nose grey?

I can't get inside Martin's head, but what I suspect happened is that he knew she didn't have a nose the shape of what appears. So, he made it grey? Frankly, I don't know what he was thinking.  But, what I do know is that her nose got distorted by the placement of the boy and his mother into the picture. They weren't there. He's as tall as she is, and that's impossible. She's not holding him because he's way too big, and she doesn't even have an arm around him. Joseph Backes pegs the kid's age at 4 years old. Do you have any idea how heavy a 4 year old boy is? He's way too heavy for a tiny little woman to hold with one arm. He's too heavy for anybody to hold with one arm. Furthermore, you can see that she is not holding him.
