Somebody wondered if the woman's hand could be UNDER the girl's dress:

That girl's dress is not scrunched from having a hand underneath it. It's obvious that she is sitting on a broad, solid surface, and not on someone's hand, nor someone's forearm. And the woman is, seemingly, carrying her like a waiter would a tray.

The empty tray is very light, so he can easily do that. But, the girl is not very light, nor is she as compact as the tray, and the notion that the woman could carry her with one hand is preposterous.
