It might be a satchel for cash. Ruby had over $2000 on him, which was equivalent to about $10,000 today. That is a hell of a lot of cash to be carrying around. How would he carry it?  Maybe he had it wrapped up in that satchel. It sure as hell isn't a pair of socks.
