Boz put up a link to Ruth Paine's testimony, and I have to admit that it really pisses me off.

She recalled that Oswald called her from the jail to ask her to try to contact Attorney John Abt in New York to represent him. And she claimed that after calling her about it, he called her back shortly afterwards to ask her the same thing again:

Mr. Jenner.
Did you say anything about the fact that he had already just called you about the same subject matter?
Mrs. Paine.
He may have added.
Mr. Jenner.
Did you, please?
Mrs. Paine.
No. I was quite stunned that he called at all or that he thought he could ask anything of me, appalled, really.

The thing that pisses me off is that she made no mention whether or not she tried to call Abt. It sounds like she didn't, and I presume that she didn't- from the attitude she showed in the remark above.
But, neither Mr. Jenner nor Future President Gerald Ford followed-up with an inquiry of whether she tried to call Abt.  They weren't interested. They were only interested in whether Oswald said anything else, such as that he shot the President or shot Tippit. They had no interest in finding out whether Oswald's request for help in getting an attorney was acted on- by her or anyone else.

Ruth Paine didn't try to call Abt. Robert Oswald didn't try to call Abt. Nobody tried to call Abt. Oswald's constitutional right to an attorney was denied. Dirty, filthy, blood-soaked bastards that they were and are.
