Paul Popa and I have been on a tear, recording another song last night. This is the classic Bossa Nova by the late great Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century and of all time. He not only created beautiful songs; he created a whole new genre of music. He was truly gifted.
And do you remember in The Godfather how Vito Corleone took his name from the town in Italy from whence he came? It was the same for Tom. (that was Jobim's nickname) He came from a town in Portugal called Santa Cruz de Jovim. It was his father's idea to adopt the name.
This song from 1962 preceded The Girl From Ipanema, and it is called Meditation.
