This is Trask's write-up about the Altgens6 photo in Pictures of the Pain:

Didn't Trask notice that the caption said that the Secret Service Men were looking from where the shots came from? It sounds like they were doing the shooting, but it triggered no comment from Trask, a mainstream historian. Carl E. Linde, the illiterate who supposedly wrote that ridiculous caption was not a writer but a photographer. So, why was one photographer writing the caption for another photographer? At least Altgens did have a background as a correspondent as well as a photographer. So, why didn't he write his own caption? Why was Linde writing a caption for Altgens? Note that that coding could very easily have been faked. They just had to use it when actually they wired the photo much later. What was stopping them? Who was going to complain? The fact that it says it does not mean that the photo actually reached AP newspapers at 1:03.
